Opportunities to volunteer

We have a welcoming and diverse volunteer community and would love for you to join it. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the contact form below or email us. We'll get back in touch very soon.

We need help with:

  • CASEWORK (Tuesdays, 1015am - 430pm, 6 month commitment)
    Read more here.

  • COOKING LUNCH (Tuesdays, 10am - 1pm, can be on a one-off or regular basis)
We need someone to help us to cook a hearty lunch for all our hardworking applicants and volunteers. It's a great opportunity to be part of our community, meet people and be creative. We get all sorts of food donated to us, so we need someone with some imagination and passion for food, as well as people who are willing to get stuck in and help us chop veg. Please contact us if you think this is you: info@unity-project.org.uk.

  • CHILDCARE (Tuesdays, 11am - 3pm, regular commitment but not necessarily weekly)
Come and have fun caring for the children of our applicants and volunteers. Parents are usually very stressed by their situation and children are often living in very difficult situations. Please help us make Tuesday sessions the highlight of their week while we work with their parents to improve their living situations in the long-term.

  • CREATE OUR NEW LOGO
Are you willing and able to design us a new logo? We'd really appreciate it and we'd credit your work.

  • FOOD COLLECTION FROM UPPER STREET / SETTING UP / PACKING DOWN (Monday evenings/ Tuesdays, ad-hoc)
Opportunities for people who live locally and have an hour or so to spare occasionally - these tasks are as essential as they are unglamorous!

  • FEEDBACK PHONE CALLS (half a day monthly, flexible timings)
We regularly call people we’ve assisted to catch up and find out about the difference our work makes. These conversations usually last around 30 minutes. You would receive training and support from our evaluation expert Jennifer Leith (DfID) and guidance on how to facilitate the conversations; we need just need you to be empathetic, patient and an excellent communicator.

  • WELFARE CASEWORKER (Tuesdays, 1015am - 430pm, 6 month commitment)
We are looking for someone with experience of casework in an advice organisation or lived experience of NRPF to make sure that the applicants we see are offered some additional welfare support. We want everyone we see to feel that their additional short-term needs are recognised and remedied where possible, alongside our legal and longer-term assistance. This mainly involves advocacy around HC1 forms, Child Benefit applications, NHS debts, access to free school meals, referrals for s.17 support, and distributing baby supplies and sanitary essentials. Varied and responsible role for anyone interested in support work in the sector.

  • CONTACTING MPs (Tuesdays)

Local MPs are able to follow up the applications we send to ensure a quick response. Often, applicants want assistance contacting their MPs, and want to know more about why and how to do this both for this application and in future. As a project, we also want to build relationships with MPs, both in order to help individuals but also keep the issue of NRPF on the political agenda. We’re looking for someone to work with us to develop this role. You don’t need any experience of lobbying work, only an interest in the political system and a passion to advocate for justice.
